Answers to the questions we hear most.

Filters, ordering, shipping, returns. If yours isn't here, call or email — we'd rather talk it through than have you guess.

Filters

What are the different types of air filters?
  • Pleated — the standard furnace/HVAC filter. MERV 8–13, roughly 3 months between changes. Our best all-round residential pick.
  • Washable — aluminum, electrostatic, or industrial steel-framed mesh you clean and put back instead of replacing. MERV 4–6, so lower filtration than pleated, but lasts 5+ years.
  • Carbon — uses activated carbon to remove odors and chemicals: smoke, fireplace fumes, formaldehyde, VOCs from paint or new building materials, pet odors, and kitchen odors. MERV 8–11.
  • HEPA — removes 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns and larger, including pet dander, dust mite residue, and pollen. This is what's inside our standalone air purifiers, like the Amaircare HyperHEPA units (certified to perform even beyond standard HEPA) — not a furnace filter type.
  • Pre-filters — trap large particles before they reach the main filter, extending time between cleanings and keeping your unit running efficiently.
  • Custom / made-to-measure — any of the above, built to your exact dimensions when your system doesn't take a standard size.
How do I measure my filter?

Measure the filter you're replacing, not the slot it sits in — the frame usually has a bit of play around the filter. Measure length, width, and depth (thickness) in inches, to the nearest 1/8".

No old filter to measure? Measure the opening it slides into instead, the same three dimensions.

Not sure about a number, or the size doesn't match anything standard? Send us the measurements — call or email — and we'll confirm the right filter or build to your exact dimensions.

What's the difference between nominal and actual (exact) size?

Nominal size is the rounded, standardized size printed on the box and used for shopping — like 20x25x1. Actual (exact) size is the filter's real, measured dimensions, which run a bit smaller than nominal so it fits inside the frame — normal and by design, not a defect.

Each product page lists both: the nominal size you're shopping by, and the actual dimensions of what ships. If your system needs something outside standard sizing, tell us the actual dimensions and we'll build to that instead.

Ordering & payment

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, and Discover, plus Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay at checkout. We also accept payment by cheque (allow extra time for clearance).

Can I cancel an order?

Yes, as long as it hasn't shipped. Email us or call 1 (800) 808-0496.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes — orders are processed through Shopify's secure, PCI-compliant checkout. We never see or store your card number.

Do you charge sales tax?

No sales tax on US orders. Canadian orders include applicable GST; Quebec residents also pay provincial sales tax.

Shipping

How long does shipping take?

Stock orders ship within 5–7 business days of payment. Made-to-measure filters take 2 weeks to fabricate.

Who do you ship with?

Purolator, UPS Ground, or FedEx Ground in most cases. You're welcome to arrange your own carrier at your own expense.

What do shipping costs look like?

Calculated automatically at checkout for Canada and the continental US. Shipping outside these areas varies by weight and destination — email us your address and order details for a quote.

What about customs and duties?

We don't collect tax or duties on Canada/US orders. Duties or taxes charged by your local authorities on international shipments are your responsibility — check with your local customs office for details.

Returns & warranty

What if my product is defective?

All products carry a full warranty. If something arrives defective, contact us by email and we'll replace it without delay. Damage in transit should be reported directly to the carrier.

What's your return policy?

We'll refund or exchange incorrect orders within 15 days of receipt. Items must be in original condition with all certificates and paperwork, and a copy of your receipt or packing slip.

Email info@airfiltration.ca before sending anything back, with your address, phone number, and return instructions.

How do refunds work?

Once we receive and verify your return, we'll refund the cost of the merchandise to your original payment method, or by cheque if you paid by cheque. You're responsible for shipping, handling, duties, and taxes; a 15% restocking fee applies.
